I did the same as you with LTTng 0.58.

Then after stopping the trace, I did

lttv -m textDump -t /tmp/trace -e "event.name=subsystem_event"

And got :

subsystem_event: 2053.607746661 (/tmp/trace/control/cpu_6), 18110,
18110, /bin/cat, , 17571, 0x0, SYSCALL { integer = 123, string =
"example string" }

So it seems to work fine. Maybe you did not see it in the graphical view
because there are too many things happening ? Using filters could help.
The filter is also available in the GUI. It's represented as a logical
AND door.

Also make sure that ltt-armall lists :

Connecting subsystem_event
Connecting subsystem_eventb
