hrm, actually, even without the patch, I get:
sample.o:(__tracepoints+0x18): undefined reference to `__tracepoint_provider_sadfasdmple_component'
if I try to compile a tracepoint with an incorrect provider name. So the
patch would not be needed. I'm using gcc 4.7.2 (Debian 4.7.2-4).
Maybe the fact that you don't get any linker error is because of
specific behavior wrt unused attribute of your gcc 4.3.3 ?
