AFAIU, __thread information gets reclaimed when a thread exits, so I
don't think there is any real-life difference in our case: usually the
rcu_unregister will be called just before thread exit.
So I agree with you that __thread should provide us better performance
in the most frequent paths, so I'm in favor of leaving __thread whenever
it's available.
