The view you are talking about, the control flow view, needs events
about irqs, scheduling, system calls, traps, softirqs, process creation
and destruction. This information is available in the default kernel
instrumentation. So yes, you need a kernel trace to have the events that
permit the drawing of content in this view.

For the userspace tracer, it would be hard and inefficient to get all
this information. The UST is rather used for tracing events inside
userspace code.

Of course you can record both a kernel and userspace trace
simultaneously, open both in lttv and get all the information.
